I love this song: the poetry of the lyrics, the video (below), the artist. I've put it on repeat so many times and it never gets old. Now this is what pop music should sound like!
I just happened to click on the youtube video in London a few months ago. I didn't know it would be so amazing. I thought no one had ever heard of this song and that it was doomed to be an unappreciated gem. but it seems to have been covered by people like Elle Goulding, Katy Perry and Adele. It also won the young star a Grammy.
The music video (one of my favorites) on Youtube has over 14 million views and has been declared by viewers to be "timeless' (it was first released in 2008).
If I hadn't saw the video first I would have thought he was black. He has a very soulful voice. One of my friends compared him to Michael Jackson but I'd say he's more like Prince. I recently found out he's actually gay, not black. I find it very brave to be an out pop star.
The song is sung to God and discusses religion, says the artist but to me the song is so sensual, it will always about love and it feels like it is meant to be sung to a lover.
